Job Title: Carpenter
We are looking for an experienced Carpenter to work in the Saskatoon area. This position supports Firma Contracting’s work in assisting with heavy civil/ underground utility projects in the Saskatoon region.
Responsibilities:
- Perform carpentry work on the project
- Adherence to project specifications, code and corporate safety requirements on all sites
- Carpentry work that falls outside of the scope of work of subcontractors
- Proficient knowledge and use of power tools such as air nailers, skill saw, screw gun
- Experience or willingness to be trained on equipment operation is an asset
- Other tasks as required by the site foreman
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings and sketches to determine specifications and calculate requirements
- Prepare layouts in conformance to building codes, using measuring tools
- Measure, cut, shape, assemble and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel and other materials
- Build foundations, install floor beams, lay subflooring and erect walls and roof systems
- Fit and install trim items, such as doors, stairs, moulding and hardware
- Maintain, repair and renovate residences and wooden structures in mills, mines, hospitals, industrial plants and other establishments
- Supervise apprentices and other construction workers
- May prepare cost estimates for clients.
Requirements:
- 3+ years of carpentry experience
- Carpentry and formwork experience
- Good verbal communication skills
- Candidate must have excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize work
- Exceptional analytical, communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
- Highly organized, results-oriented and able to work in a multi-functional team environment
- Must have own vehicle and valid driver’s license
- Completion of secondary school.
- Completion of a three- to four-year apprenticeship program or a combination of over four years of work experience in the trade and some high school, college or industry courses in carpentry
Physical Demands: Handling material manually, standing, bending or twisting the body, making repetitive motions, walking and running.
Work Environment: Sounds and noise, skin injury, standard safety equipment, outside, exposed to weather, hazardous conditions, high places, dangerous chemical substances, extreme temperatures, vibration, hazardous equipment, machinery, tools.
